The sacrament of Eucharist brings to completion the Christian process of initiation. In this sacrament we remember what Jesus did for us in his life, death and resurrection. We remember particularly the Last Supper, that final meal Jesus shared with his disciples. At that meal Jesus gave us the Eucharist so that we could remember him in a special way. When we receive Communion, we believe that we receive the person of Jesus into our very beings. We become one with him, and we become one with each other. As a community we become 'the body of Christ'.

The Eucharist is the “Source and Summit” of our faith! Christ is truly and fully present to us in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Three consecutive years of faith formation is needed to prepare young people for this sacrament which is normally celebrated in the 3rd grade. For example, beginning in the 1st grade, a child should eventually celebrate First Reconciliation in the 2nd grade and First Holy Communion in 3rd grade. If, however, a child begins at another time (e.g., the 4rd grade), he or she will celebrate First Eucharist after the third year of formation (e.g., the 6th grade).
